1st Place: Painting
I feel very privileged that at this moment in time my Rural Reality is fairly untouched and as nature intended. I can still find parts of the property that have not been changed or modified by human activities. This is changing quickly as I watch the solar panels and gas wells approaching from the east and the huge wind towers marching towards us from the west. How long will this tranquility last?

This work is compositionally strong and demonstrates the effective use of the chosen mediums. It reveals a sense of depth, dynamism, and quiet beauty. Technical variance is evident through the expressionistic painting approach juxtaposed with defined linework, which has been used in restraint so as not to overpower the overall scene. Your artwork statement hints at the transitory nature of such scenes, which is captured visually through your skillful application of paint in composing the scene.
About the artist
Patricia Hinz is a mixed media artist who lives at Drillham on the Western Downs. She is influenced by the landscape around her and paints from the studio she has set up on her front veranda. During 2024 she has concentrated on painting closer to home, taking inspiration from her garden and the paddocks on her own property.
